Services Infrastructure

Together we are stronger

UK3.0 has a target of delivering a benefit to the UK of £100billion per annum by 2019. A substantial portion of this will be new business to companies large and small.

UK3.0 knows of the vast wealth of innovative technologies, products and services owned by companies that are generally 'out there' in the UK. Until now, there has been no concerted action to bring these together so all of the creativity, and frankly, hard work, is able to bring benefit on a national scale and in so doing, benefit those who have made those commitments and taken substantial personal and company risks.

Opportunities for all

The use of an Interoperability Framework means that 'competencies' can be supplied by anyone who is able to fulfil the specification for that competence. The government and indeed, the EU recognise the need to make opportunity for SMEs as well as established, corporate concerns. UK3.0 is organising itself so as to make these new sales opportunities accessible to every size of company from 'one man bands' upwards.

UK3.0 is working with all stakeholders to bring them together in a competitive and yet mutually supportive Services Infrastructure. Central to this is the knowledge that these national-scale benefits depend on national-scale collaboration. Everyone is important. In many ways, the 2008/9 financial and construction sector difficulties are making is apparent to everyone that now is the time to act together in a concerted effort to our mutual benefit. Now is the time to integrate all of the competencies, skills and expertise to transform UK housing from historically largely passive structures into highly coherent, active devices that support every aspect of life at home. In so doing, we can collectively help bring about an immense contribution to reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions and yet also enhance quality of life. This will only come about through a coordinated, collaborative understanding and implementation of the widest services infrastructure and the physical environment i.e. the home, in which it operates.

No manuals required please

With that opportunity also comes a responsibility. We recognise that we are inside people's home. Products and technologies must be unobtrusive to the extent of being practically invisible wherever possible. Everything must work superbly well, with the highest levels of reliability. Instead of a vast raft of unreliable technological toys it is essential to provide extremely well implemented simple functions and then grow on those solid foundations.

For these reasons, UK3.0 hosts collaborative discourse between the Services Infrastructure and the other competencies, arranged into 'frameworks': Training and Support, Financial, Construction Sector, Public Sector and National Policy.

Always futureproofing

Within the Services Infrastructure the Interoperability Framework is both pragmatic - we must use what we have today - and visionary in that it is intended to have a fifty-year relevance to the country. It will change over time to ensure that immediate concerns are met whilst also fostering prosperity and employment for decades to come.

The Interoperability Framework is under construction right now. There are no charges for the access to it. There is no commercial, proprietary technology needed to participate.

A significantly stronger UK economy

In many ways, the 2008/9 financial and construction sector difficulties are making it apparent to everyone that now is the time to act together in a concerted effort to our mutual benefit.

Public, private and third sector organisations of any size are warmly invited to participate. Whether you sell a product, a service, content or operate wide-, metropolitan-, local- home- or personal-area networks, there is a place for you in UK3.0. The only requirement is that you are genuinely prepared to work in good faith in a collaborative environment.
